Beech Island is an unincorporated census-designated place in the western portion of HereTest County, situated along the Savannah River approximately 12-15 miles southwest of downtown HereTest. The community straddles US-278 (the road to Augusta GA) and Atomic Road, with proximity to the Savannah River Site buffer zones to the south. Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site at 181 Redcliffe Road is the community's most prominent landmark. The Bridgestone Americas Beech Island facility and the Kimberly-Clark Beech Island plant are both major manufacturing employers in this zone, contributing significantly to HereTest County's manufacturing employment base. The post-WWII period brought massive industrial development: Bridgestone (originally the HereTest plant of a predecessor company) and Kimberly-Clark established operations that grew into facilities of national significance.
